CD33 Db-FM is a diagnostic imaging agent developed by Imagion Biosystems for the detection and monitoring of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It is a key component of the MagSense technology platform, which utilizes superparamagnetic relaxometry (SPMR) to identify cancerous cells. The agent consists of a CD33-specific diabody (Db)—a small, bivalent antibody fragment—conjugated to functionalized magnetic (FM) iron oxide nanoparticles. The diabody component provides high-affinity targeting of the CD33 antigen (Siglec-3), which is predominantly expressed on AML blasts and leukemic stem cells. Upon binding to these cells, the magnetic nanoparticles can be detected by the MagSense sensor, providing a highly sensitive and specific measurement of the tumor burden. This technology aims to improve the detection of minimal residual disease (MRD) and provide a non-invasive alternative to traditional bone marrow biopsies.
