CD33-targeted CAR-T cells (Zhujiang Hospital) is an investigational chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy being developed by Zhujiang Hospital for the treatment of relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The therapy involves the genetic modification of autologous T cells to express a CAR that specifically targets CD33 (Siglec-3), a transmembrane protein expressed on the surface of leukemic blasts in approximately 90% of AML cases. Upon administration, these engineered T cells recognize and bind to CD33-positive cells, triggering T-cell activation and the subsequent lysis of the malignant myeloid cells. This therapy is currently being evaluated as part of a multi-antigen platform trial where patients are treated with CAR-T cells targeting one of several antigens (including CD33, CD38, CD56, CD123, CD117, CD133, CD34, or MUC1) based on the individual expression profile of their disease.
