CD34+ enriched T-cell depleted peripheral blood stem cells is an investigational cell therapy product developed by Baptist Health South Florida for the treatment of various hematologic malignancies. The therapy involves the use of allogeneic peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) collected from HLA-compatible related or unrelated donors, which are then processed using the CliniMACS system. This system utilizes immunomagnetic selection to enrich the graft for CD34+ hematopoietic progenitor cells while simultaneously depleting T-lymphocytes. The primary goal of this T-cell depletion is to reduce the incidence and severity of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), a common and potentially fatal complication of allogeneic stem cell transplantation, while the CD34+ cells provide the necessary hematopoietic and immune reconstitution. The therapy is being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials alongside disease-specific myeloablative conditioning regimens for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.
