CD34+ selected hematopoietic stem cells (New York Medical College) is an investigational cell therapy graft used in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Developed and studied by New York Medical College, this therapy involves the ex vivo enrichment of CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells from a donor's peripheral blood or bone marrow, typically using automated immunomagnetic separation technology. The primary goal of this selection process is to provide a high dose of stem cells for hematopoietic reconstitution while significantly depleting T-lymphocytes from the graft. This T-cell depletion is intended to reduce the incidence and severity of acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in patients receiving transplants from partially matched family donors or matched unrelated donors. The approach is being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for a wide range of pediatric and young adult patients with high-risk malignant diseases, such as leukemia and lymphoma, as well as non-malignant conditions including bone marrow failure syndromes, primary immunodeficiencies, histiocytosis, and genetic disorders like sickle cell disease and beta thalassemia.
