CD38-CAVI-R is an experimental immunotherapy developed by Mymetics using its proprietary Chimeric Antigen Virosome (CAVI) platform. The drug consists of virosomes—synthetic, non-infectious lipid bilayers that incorporate viral envelope proteins, such as those from the influenza virus—engineered to display recombinant fragments that target CD38 (ADP-ribosyl cyclase 1). CD38 is a transmembrane glycoprotein highly expressed on the surface of multiple myeloma cells and other hematologic malignancies. By mimicking the structural and immunogenic properties of a virus while specifically binding to CD38-positive cells, CD38-CAVI-R is designed to trigger a potent, targeted immune response against cancer cells. This mechanism may involve the recruitment of effector cells for antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) or the direct induction of apoptosis, providing a novel approach to treating refractory or relapsed multiple myeloma.
