CD38-GEAR-NK autologous is an autologous natural killer (NK) cell therapy that has been genetically modified to protect CD38-positive NK cells from being targeted and destroyed by CD38-directed immunotherapies. The GEAR (Gene Editing and Activation of Receptors) technology platform is designed to enable CD38+ NK cells to co-exist with CD38-targeting therapies, allowing for complementary tumor killing and immune surveillance[3][4]. The therapy addresses a critical challenge in cancer treatment: anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies and other CD38-directed therapies kill not only CD38+ cancer cells but also CD38+ NK cells, which are important innate immune effector cells that recognize and destroy cancer cells. By protecting these NK cells from fratricidal killing, CD38-GEAR-NK autologous aims to maintain the anti-tumor activity of NK cells while benefiting from CD38-targeted therapy[3]. The product is being developed by Coeptis Therapeutics and is indicated for CD38-positive tumors, including hematological malignancies and potentially solid tumors[3].
