Verge Genomics is developing a small molecule program targeting **CD38** (ADP-ribosyl cyclase 1) for the treatment of **neurodegenerative diseases**. CD38 is a multifunctional enzyme that serves as the primary hydrolase of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) in the brain. NAD+ depletion is a key feature of aging and neurodegeneration, contributing to mitochondrial dysfunction and impaired cellular resilience. By inhibiting CD38, Verge aims to restore NAD+ levels and mitigate neurodegenerative processes. This program was identified using Verge's proprietary **CONVERGE™ platform**, which leverages artificial intelligence and human genomic data to discover novel therapeutic targets. While Verge's lead CD38 inhibitor, **VRG201**, is being advanced for metabolic indications, the neurodegeneration program remains in the discovery or lead generation phase.
