The CD40L bystander vaccine is a cell-based cancer immunotherapy designed to stimulate the immune system against tumors. It typically consists of irradiated tumor cells combined with "bystander" cells (such as K562) that have been genetically engineered to express both granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and CD40 ligand (CD40L).
