CD44v6 siRNA is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of the CD44 variant isoform 6 (CD44v6). CD44v6 is a cell surface glycoprotein that acts as a co-receptor for various growth factors and is implicated in the progression, metastasis, and therapy resistance of several cancers, including glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). In glioma stem-like cells (BTSC), CD44v6 signaling is linked to the activation of the PI3K/AKT/S6R pathway, often triggered by the ligand osteopontin. By mediating the sequence-specific degradation of CD44v6 mRNA, this siRNA inhibits the growth and survival of CD44-high tumor cells and reduces their stem-like characteristics, making it a potential therapeutic strategy for targeting cancer stem cell populations.
