Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CD52 shielding variant is an epitope-engineered cell therapy being developed by Cimeio Therapeutics as part of its Shielded-Cell & Immunotherapy Pairs (SCIP) platform. The therapy involves engineering healthy cells, such as T cells or hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), to express a modified version of the CD52 receptor containing a base-edited point mutation. This modification shields the cells from depletion by the anti-CD52 monoclonal antibody alemtuzumab, while preserving the natural expression, processing, and anti-phagocytic 'don't eat me' signaling function of CD52. This platform is designed to enable selective depletion of diseased cells while protecting the healthy, shielded cell graft, serving as a potential treatment for T-cell malignancies, non-genotoxic conditioning for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and improving the persistence of allogeneic CAR-T cell therapies.
