CD56-targeted CAR-T cells are an investigational chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by Zhujiang Hospital for the treatment of relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This cellular immunotherapy involves the genetic modification of T-cells to express a CAR that specifically recognizes CD56 (also known as Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule 1, NCAM1), a surface glycoprotein often overexpressed on AML blasts and associated with an aggressive disease course. Upon binding to CD56-expressing leukemic cells, the CAR-T cells undergo activation and expansion, leading to the targeted lysis of the malignant cells. This therapy is being evaluated as part of a broader clinical research program at Zhujiang Hospital investigating multiple CAR-T targets for myeloid malignancies.
