Overview

**CD56R-CAR T cells** are a type of cellular immunotherapy in which a patient’s own T cells are genetically modified in the laboratory to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) that specifically targets the CD56 receptor (also known as NCAM1) on cell surfaces. The CAR enables the T cells to recognize and attack CD56-expressing cells, which may include certain hematological malignancies (such as NK/T-cell lymphoma) or solid tumors that express CD56. Like other CAR T cell therapies, the process involves isolating T cells from the patient, transducing them with the CAR targeting CD56, expanding them in culture, and then infusing them back into the patient to mediate a targeted immune response against cancer cells. This therapeutic approach falls under the class of cell therapies and is an investigational therapy (as of 2025) with ongoing or planned early-stage clinical studies.
