CD70 siRNA is a therapeutic modality utilizing small interfering RNA (siRNA) to silence the expression of the CD70 gene (also known as TNFSF7). CD70 is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily that is frequently overexpressed in various cancers, including melanoma and renal cell carcinoma, while maintaining restricted expression in normal tissues. By targeting CD70 mRNA for degradation through the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, CD70 siRNA reduces the levels of CD70 protein, which is involved in tumor cell proliferation and immune evasion. Preclinical studies, such as those conducted at the UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, have demonstrated that treatment with CD70-specific siRNAs can significantly inhibit the growth of melanoma cell lines, suggesting its potential as a targeted antineoplastic agent.
