CD74 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the CD74 gene, which encodes the HLA class II-associated invariant chain. CD74 is a multifunctional protein that serves as a chaperone for MHC class II molecules and as a cell-surface receptor for macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF). Overexpression of CD74 is associated with various malignancies, including metastatic melanoma, where it promotes cell proliferation and survival. By targeting CD74 mRNA for degradation via the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, CD74 siRNA reduces CD74 protein levels, leading to the inhibition of tumor cell growth. Preclinical studies, such as those conducted at the UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, have identified CD74 as a viable therapeutic target for the treatment of advanced melanoma.
