Overview

CD86 CAR-T cells are an experimental chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target Cluster of Differentiation 86 (CD86), also known as B7-2. CD86 was identified as a promising target for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) through high-resolution single-cell RNA sequencing, which revealed its high expression on AML blasts and leukemic stem cells compared to healthy tissues and hematopoietic stem cells. Developed by researchers at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich and the Helmholtz Centre Munich, these CAR-T cells have demonstrated potent anti-leukemic efficacy in preclinical in vitro and in vivo models, including patient-derived xenografts (PDX). The therapy aims to provide a safe and effective treatment option for AML, a disease where finding specific targets that spare healthy cells has been challenging.
