Overview

A CD9 neutralizing antibody refers to a class of experimental monoclonal antibodies designed to target and inhibit the CD9 protein, also known as tetraspanin-29. CD9 is a cell surface glycoprotein involved in various cellular processes, including adhesion, motility, and signaling, and is frequently overexpressed in several types of cancer. These antibodies are being investigated in preclinical research for their ability to inhibit tumor growth and metastasis by blocking CD9-mediated pathways, inducing apoptosis, and potentially reducing the pro-tumorigenic effects of cancer-derived extracellular vesicles (exosomes). While multiple patents and research publications describe specific anti-CD9 antibodies with neutralizing properties, there is currently no single proprietary drug or clinical-stage candidate widely recognized by this name.
