Overview

CDCA1 (cell division cycle associated 1), also known as NUF2, is a protein that plays a critical role in cell division and is an essential component of the NDC80 kinetochore complex. It mediates the attachment of spindle microtubules to kinetochores during mitosis and ensures proper chromosome segregation. Overexpression of CDCA1 has been observed in several cancers, including prostate cancer and ovarian clear cell carcinoma, where it contributes to malignant potential and poor prognosis. CDCA1-derived peptide vaccines have been developed as cancer immunotherapies, stimulating cytotoxic T lymphocyte responses against tumor cells expressing CDCA1. Phase I clinical trials have shown that such vaccines are well tolerated and can induce immune responses in patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer.
