CDD-2101

CDD-2101 is a botanical drug developed by the Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development (CDD) at Hong Kong Baptist University for the treatment of functional and chronic constipation. It is a standardized formulation of the traditional Chinese herbal medicine MaZiRenWan, which has been used for centuries. The drug is composed of six herbal ingredients: hemp seed, rhubarb, officinal magnolia bark, bitter apricot seed, bran stir-fried immature orange fruit, and white peony root. CDD-2101 functions through multiple metabolic pathways, including the regulation of bile acid secretion, steroid hormone biosynthesis, and lipid metabolism. In April 2023, it became the first botanical drug developed in Hong Kong to receive U.S. FDA authorization for Phase I clinical trials, where it is being evaluated for safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers.
