Overview

CDK5 siRNA refers to a class of small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules designed to selectively silence the expression of Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 5 (CDK5). CDK5 is a serine/threonine kinase primarily active in post-mitotic neurons, where it regulates neuronal migration and synaptic plasticity, but it is also implicated in the progression of various cancers, including glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), prostate cancer, and multiple myeloma. These siRNA reagents function by inducing the degradation of CDK5 mRNA, thereby reducing protein levels and inhibiting downstream signaling pathways, such as the phosphorylation of Drp1 at serine 616, which affects mitochondrial fission. Currently, CDK5 siRNA is utilized exclusively as a laboratory research tool for in vitro gene knockdown experiments and is not approved for clinical therapeutic use in humans.
