CDK9 siRNA is a research-grade synthetic small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (CDK9). CDK9 is the catalytic subunit of the positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb) complex, which plays a critical role in regulating gene transcription by phosphorylating the C-terminal domain of RNA polymerase II. In various cancer models, including multiple myeloma, osteosarcoma, and ovarian cancer, CDK9 siRNA is used to investigate the dependency of tumor cells on CDK9-mediated transcription of oncogenic survival factors like Mcl-1 and c-Myc. By knocking down CDK9, researchers can induce apoptosis and inhibit cell proliferation, validating CDK9 as a therapeutic target. It is primarily used as a laboratory tool and is not currently a clinical-stage therapeutic asset.
