Overview

CDO-7N-1 is a live attenuated intranasal vaccine candidate for COVID-19 developed by Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL) in collaboration with Griffith University. The vaccine utilizes codon deoptimization technology to create a needle-free, intranasal booster designed to induce both mucosal and systemic immunity. Unlike many first-generation vaccines that primarily target the spike protein, CDO-7N-1 is designed to target all major SARS-CoV-2 proteins. Preclinical research published in Nature Communications in 2024 indicates that the vaccine induces strong memory responses in the nasal mucosa, potentially offering long-term protection. The vaccine has demonstrated stability at 4 degrees Celsius for up to seven months and has shown safety and efficacy in animal models. As of 2024, Indian Immunologicals has completed necessary studies and is planning to initiate clinical trials.
