CDX-101

CDX-101 is a prodrug of the naturally occurring marine molecule astaxanthin being developed by Cardax Pharmaceuticals. It is primarily being investigated for cardiovascular disorders and dyslipidemia. The drug is believed to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that modulate lipid metabolism and cardiovascular health. Preclinical studies suggest CDX-101 may have advantages over prescription fish oils, including easier administration (smaller tablets versus large fish oil capsules), scalable synthetic production, and potentially better safety profile. The active moiety of CDX-101, astaxanthin, has demonstrated pleiotropic effects similar to those seen with prescription fish oils but potentially without their limitations.
