CDX-1135 is a soluble, recombinant human Complement Receptor Type 1 (sCR1) developed by Avant Immunotherapeutics (now Celldex). It acts as a potent inhibitor of complement activation, targeting the classical, lectin, and alternative pathways at both early (C3) and late (C5) activation steps. The drug was investigated for conditions involving complement-mediated damage such as post-cardiopulmonary bypass syndrome and kidney diseases like dense deposit disease (DDD), where uncontrolled complement activation leads to progressive renal injury. Mechanistically, CDX-1135 interacts with the complement fragments C3b and C4b to accelerate decay of C3/C5 convertase complexes and promote cleavage into inactive fragments, thereby inhibiting downstream inflammatory processes[1][3][4][5][6]. Clinical trials have evaluated its safety and efficacy in pediatric and adult patients with DDD[8].
