CDX-301 is a small molecule pharmaceutical candidate developed by Cardax, utilizing zeaxanthin as its active ingredient. Zeaxanthin is a xanthophyll carotenoid that naturally and selectively accumulates in the human macula through uptake by a unique retinal receptor. The drug is being developed for the treatment of macular degeneration, with Stargardt disease as the target initial indication. CDX-301 functions through general antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, specifically protecting the retina from oxidative stress, blue light-induced damage, and associated inflammation.
