CDX-ZiKV is a live-attenuated vaccine candidate developed by Codagenix for the prevention of Zika virus infection. The vaccine is engineered using the proprietary Synthetic Attenuation of Virulence (SAVE) platform, which employs codon deoptimization to attenuate the virus. By introducing hundreds of synonymous mutations into the viral genome, the platform creates a virus that is genetically identical to the wild-type in its protein sequence but exhibits significantly reduced translation efficiency. This results in a highly attenuated virus that can replicate sufficiently to induce a robust and broad-based immune response—including both humoral and cellular immunity—without causing disease. CDX-ZiKV is currently in preclinical development.
