Overview

CEA CAR-T cells are a form of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy engineered to target carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a protein overexpressed in various cancers such as colorectal cancer. These autologous T-cells are genetically modified to express a CAR that specifically recognizes CEA on tumor cell surfaces. Upon administration, the CEA CAR-T cells bind to and induce cytotoxicity in CEA-expressing tumor cells through mechanisms including cytokine secretion and direct lysis. This approach aims for selective targeting of malignant tissue with minimal impact on normal tissues, as CEA is largely absent from most adult tissues except at low levels in the gastrointestinal tract[1][2][3]. Clinical trials have shown that this therapy can be well tolerated and may induce disease stabilization or tumor shrinkage in patients with advanced cancers[2][5]. The technology is under investigation for its potential across multiple solid tumors.
