Overview

CEA-CART is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), also known as CEACAM5. CEA is a cell surface glycoprotein that is highly overexpressed in various solid tumors, particularly colorectal cancer, while showing limited expression in normal adult tissues. Developed through a collaboration between Renji Hospital and Shanghai GeneChem, this therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's T cells to express a CAR that specifically recognizes and binds to CEA-expressing tumor cells, leading to T-cell activation and targeted tumor cell lysis. In clinical settings for advanced colorectal cancer with liver metastases, CEA-CART has been investigated using vascular interventional therapy, such as hepatic artery infusion, to maximize the local concentration of the therapeutic cells within the tumor site while minimizing systemic side effects.
