Overview

CEACAM5 small peptide is a therapeutic peptide candidate derived from the Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5 (CEACAM5) protein, specifically containing the Asparagine (N)71 residue. In patients with Crohn's disease, the expression of CEACAM5 on intestinal epithelial cells is often defective, which impairs the activation and suppressive function of CD8+ T regulatory cells (Tregs). This small peptide is designed to mimic the interaction between epithelial CEACAM5 and CD8+ T cells, thereby restoring the suppressive activity of these Tregs and increasing the production of the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10). By enhancing the regulatory function of CD8+ T cells, the peptide aims to modulate the inflammatory state and suppress the proliferation of activated CD4+ T cells in the gut mucosa.
