Overview

Cedazuridine is a small molecule cytidine deaminase inhibitor developed to increase the oral bioavailability of hypomethylating agents such as decitabine. By inhibiting cytidine deaminase in the gastrointestinal tract and liver, cedazuridine prevents the rapid degradation of decitabine, allowing for effective oral administration. Cedazuridine is not used alone but in fixed-dose combination with decitabine (marketed as Inqovi) for the treatment of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), including chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML). The combination was approved by the FDA in July 2020 and is indicated for adult patients with MDS, including subtypes such as refractory anemia and excess blasts[1][2][3][4][6].
