Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CEF4GUD is an oral second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic containing 500mg of cefuroxime axetil, a prodrug of cefuroxime. Developed by Genspec Lifesciences, it is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. The drug works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. This binding inhibits the transpeptidation enzymes responsible for cross-linking peptidoglycan chains, thereby preventing cell wall synthesis and leading to bacterial cell lysis and death. It is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
