cefacetrile

Cefacetrile is a broad-spectrum first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic derived from 7-aminocephalosporanic acid. It is effective against many Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacterial infections. Cefacetrile acts by binding to and inactivating penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall, thereby inhibiting the final stages of bacterial cell wall synthesis. This leads to cell lysis mediated by autolytic enzymes such as autolysins. It is used both in human medicine and veterinary applications (notably for mastitis in lactating cows). The drug achieves high serum levels after administration and is rapidly excreted via urine[1][2][3][6].
