Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cefalexin is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, bone, ear, urinary tract, and genitourinary system. It acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death. Cefalexin is effective against many Gram-positive bacteria and some Gram-negative bacteria. It is available as capsules, tablets, and oral suspensions for administration by mouth[1][2][3][4][5].
