cefazedone

Cefazedone is a semisynthetic first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic belonging to the β-lactam class. It exhibits antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The drug acts by binding to and inactivating penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. PBPs are enzymes involved in the final stages of assembling and reshaping the bacterial cell wall during growth and division. Inactivation of these proteins interferes with cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains, weakening cell wall strength and rigidity, ultimately leading to bacterial cell lysis[1][3][5][8].
