Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NAL9316 is an intravenous formulation of cefazolin sodium, a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic being developed by NAL Pharmaceutical Group. As a beta-lactam antibiotic, it exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. This inhibition prevents the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis, leading to cell wall instability and osmotic lysis of the bacteria. The drug is intended for the treatment of various bacterial infections and is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
