Cefdinir is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia and bronchitis), otitis media (middle ear infection), sinusitis, strep throat (especially in penicillin-allergic patients), cellulitis, and other soft tissue infections. Cefdinir acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death. It is administered orally as capsules or suspension. Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, and skin rash; serious adverse reactions can include *Clostridioides difficile* infection or severe allergic responses. Cefdinir was developed by Fujisawa and first approved for medical use in 1991[3][8].
