cefepime

Cefepime is a fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin infections, kidney infections, and as empiric therapy for febrile neutropenia. It acts by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), specifically transpeptidases involved in the final stages of bacterial cell wall synthesis. This inhibition disrupts peptidoglycan cross-linking in the cell wall, leading to bacterial lysis and death. Cefepime has broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria—including Pseudomonas aeruginosa—and is administered intravenously or intramuscularly[1][2][3][4][6]. It is not effective against viral infections.
