Overview

**Cefepime + enmetazobactam** is an intravenous fixed-dose antibacterial combination containing cefepime, a fourth-generation cephalosporin, and enmetazobactam, a penicillanic acid sulfone beta-lactamase inhibitor. Cefepime inhibits bacterial penicillin-binding proteins and thereby disrupts peptidoglycan cell-wall synthesis, while enmetazobactam inhibits susceptible serine beta-lactamases, including extended-spectrum beta-lactamases, protecting cefepime from enzymatic hydrolysis. Originated by Orchid Pharma and clinically developed by Allecra Therapeutics, the product is marketed as Exblifep and Orblicef. It is approved for adult complicated urinary tract infections including acute pyelonephritis, with European authorization also covering hospital-acquired pneumonia, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and associated bacteremia.
