Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of four broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotics—cefepime, meropenem, piperacillin, and tazobactam. Each component belongs to the β-lactam class but represents different subclasses:\n- **Cefepime** is a fourth-generation cephalosporin with strong activity against Gram-negative bacteria (including Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and some Gram-positive organisms.\n- **Meropenem** is a carbapenem antibiotic with very broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including many resistant strains.\n- **Piperacillin** is an extended-spectrum ureidopenicillin effective against many Gram-negative organisms; it is combined with **tazobactam**, a β-lactamase inhibitor that protects piperacillin from enzymatic degradation by certain resistant bacteria.\n\nThese agents are typically used in severe or high-risk infections where multidrug-resistant organisms are suspected or confirmed. While all four drugs may be used individually or in various combinations for empiric therapy in critically ill patients (such as those with sepsis or polymicrobial infections), there is no standard clinical indication for using all four together as a single regimen due to overlapping spectra and increased risk of toxicity. Their use together would be highly unusual outside of experimental settings[1][2][4].
