Cefepime + nacubactam is a combination of two agents used to treat serious Gram-negative bacterial infections, particularly those caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. Cefepime is a fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Nacubactam is a novel non-β-lactam diazabicyclooctane β-lactamase inhibitor that not only inhibits class A and C β-lactamases but also binds directly to PBP2 in Enterobacterales, providing intrinsic antibacterial activity and acting as a β-lactam enhancer. The combination is being developed for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis, and other serious Gram-negative infections including those caused by carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales. It is administered intravenously[2][3][4][5][6].
