Cefepime + sulbactam is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic consisting of cefepime, a fourth-generation cephalosporin, and sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Cefepime exerts its bactericidal activity by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. Sulbactam acts as a suicide inhibitor of certain beta-lactamases (primarily Class A and some Class C enzymes), thereby protecting cefepime from enzymatic degradation and extending its spectrum of activity against resistant Gram-negative pathogens, including *Acinetobacter baumannii* and *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. This combination is typically administered parenterally for the treatment of serious systemic infections, particularly those suspected to be caused by multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacteria producing beta-lactamases.
