Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Supime is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic developed by Venus Remedies, utilizing their proprietary Antibiotic Adjuvant Entity (AAE) technology. It consists of the fourth-generation cephalosporin **cefepime**, the beta-lactamase inhibitor **tazobactam**, and the adjuvant **edetic acid** (disodium edetate/EDTA). Cefepime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), while tazobactam protects cefepime from degradation by inhibiting various beta-lactamase enzymes, including extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs). The inclusion of edetic acid serves as an adjuvant that helps disrupt bacterial outer membranes and may inhibit metallo-beta-lactamases by chelating divalent cations. Supime is indicated for the treatment of serious infections such as nosocomial and community-acquired pneumonia, urinary tract infections, bacterial septicaemia, skin and soft tissue infections, and intra-abdominal infections, particularly those caused by multi-drug resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria.
