cefixime

Cefixime is a broad-spectrum, orally active third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including bronchitis, gonorrhea, otitis media (middle ear infection), pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and urinary tract infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby blocking the final transpeptidation step in peptidoglycan synthesis and leading to bacterial cell lysis and death. Cefixime is stable against certain beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria. It was FDA approved in 1989[1][2][4][5].
