cefixime + dicloxacillin

cefixime + dicloxacillin is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic consisting of cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin, and dicloxacillin, a penicillinase-resistant penicillin. Cefixime exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls; it possesses broad activity against Gram-negative organisms and some Gram-positive bacteria. Dicloxacillin similarly binds to PBPs but is specifically designed to remain active against penicillinase-producing Staphylococci, which are often resistant to other penicillins. This combination is developed by Cosmas Pharmaceuticals as an oral extended-release (ER) formulation (typically 200mg cefixime and 500mg dicloxacillin) intended for the treatment of various bacterial infections where broad-spectrum coverage or resistance to beta-lactamases is a concern.
