Cefmetazol + cefotiam is a combination of two beta-lactam antibiotics: cefmetazol, a cephamycin, and cefotiam, a second-generation cephalosporin. Both drugs act by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to bactericidal activity against susceptible organisms. This combination has been studied for its synergistic effects against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA), with in vitro studies showing enhanced antibacterial activity compared to either agent alone. The synergy is particularly notable at lower concentrations and may be useful in treating infections caused by resistant staphylococci[1][2][3][5]. Each component covers a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
