Cefodizime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against aerobic gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It acts as a bactericidal agent by targeting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) 1A/B, 2, and 3, leading to inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis and eventual cell death. Cefodizime is stable to most beta-lactamases and is administered parenterally (intramuscularly or intravenously). Clinically, it has been shown to be effective in treating upper and lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea (including beta-lactamase producing strains), and has also been considered for otitis media, sinusitis, gynecological infections, as well as prophylaxis or treatment of surgical infections. Its efficacy is comparable to other third-generation cephalosporins[1][2][3][5].
