Overview

Cefoselis is a fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic belonging to the β-lactam class. It is a semisynthetic, oxime-type cephem with a 1-hydroxyethyl-5-amino-pyrazole moiety at position 3 of the cephem ring. Cefoselis acts as a cell wall synthesis inhibitor by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to bactericidal activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Serratia spp., Proteus spp., Morganella morganii, and Providencia spp. It is used primarily for the treatment of respiratory and urinary tract infections and has been approved in Japan and China for these indications[2][3][4][5][9]. Cefoselis can penetrate the blood-brain barrier more readily than some other cephalosporins but may induce seizures in elderly or renally impaired patients[7].
