Overview

Cefotiam is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death. Cefotiam is primarily used for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including those caused by Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Enterobacteriaceae family members and others. Clinical indications include osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, tonsillitis, bronchitis (acute and chronic), pneumonia, gynecological infections, sepsis as well as otitis media and sinusitis[1][3][4][5].
