Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cefozinamidine is a novel, broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic developed by Guangzhou Baiyunshan Pharmaceutical. Classified as a Category 1 innovative drug in China, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The molecule exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis; it binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are critical enzymes involved in the final stages of peptidoglycan assembly. This disruption leads to bacterial cell lysis and death. Cefozinamidine has shown efficacy against a range of pathogens, including Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus. As of 2024, the drug is in Phase 3 clinical development in China.
