Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cefpirome + fosfomycin is an antibiotic combination that leverages complementary mechanisms of action to enhance antibacterial efficacy. Fosfomycin irreversibly inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by targeting the MurA enzyme in the initial phase of peptidoglycan biosynthesis, while cefpirome, a fourth-generation cephalosporin, interferes with a different stage of cell wall synthesis. This combination demonstrates synergistic effects against various bacterial pathogens, including multidrug-resistant strains, and has shown promise in treating infections caused by extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing and carbapenemase-producing enterobacteria.
