Cefpirome + moxifloxacin is a combination of two antibiotics used for the treatment of bacterial infections. Cefpirome is a fourth-generation cephalosporin that acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. Moxifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. The combination aims to provide broad-spectrum coverage against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. While there are studies on combinations of cephalosporins (such as cefepime or cefixime) with moxifloxacin showing synergistic effects against various pathogens[1][4][8], direct clinical data on the specific pairing of cefpirome with moxifloxacin are limited; however, pharmacokinetic studies have been conducted[2]. This combination may be considered in severe or resistant infections where broad-spectrum empirical therapy is warranted.
